GRAMMY-nominated electronic DJ/producer/remixer Richard Humpty Vission recently participated in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview discussing the changing role of DJs, the different flavors of house music from around the world and being nominated for a GRAMMY in 2000, among other topics.
"To get that phone call [that says] 'you're nominated' is the best thing in the world," said Vission. "Now … I want other artists that I'm producing to get nominated. … I want somebody else to have that experience."
Raised in Los Angeles, Vission emerged as one of the preeminent L.A.-area DJ/producers in the late '80s. In 1992 he formed the Movement with producer A.J. Mora and rapper Hazze, subsequently releasing the hit single "Jump!" and a self-titled album that peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Following a tour with the Movement, Vission founded the Aqua Boogie label and in 1995 joined with British remixer Peter Lorimer to form the production team Vission & Lorimer. The duo subsequently produced dance hits for artists such as Crystal Waters, N-Joi, Raw Stylus, Martha Wash, and the Brand New Heavies.
